The Marathon Project - Sponsored by the Council on Addiction Prevention and Education of Dutchess County.
The Marathon Project's motto is: "Empowering Youth through Running"
The Marathon Project is an innovative program that addresses many of the serious issues teens are facing: obesity, tobacco use, alcoholism, substance abuse and more.
The Marathon Project provides an opportunity for at risk youth to explore avenues for character development, goal setting and improved health, while building positive student adult relationships through mentoring. The goal is for students to have a life changing experience as they train their minds and bodies for successful completion of a full or half marathon.
Volunteer mentors from the community train with the students from March through the summer, running in progressively longer races. To learn more, contact Sara at NECC.
NECC’s space is available for teachers and volunteers to lead their own classes and activities. Over the years we've hosted karate and Tae Kwon Do, painting, yoga and Pilates. Our current offerings are as follows. (For more information or to register for these programs, call the listed teacher.) If you are interested in leading your own class or program give us a call!
